ST. LOUIS — The Pirates activated Eric Fryer, the catcher they claimed off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals Sunday, prior to today’s game against the Cardinals.
To make room for Fryer, the Pirates put Chris Stewart on the 15-day disabled list. Stewart has dealt with pain in his left knee, among other ailments, for the better part of a month, and has been in and out of the lineup.
Fryer, 30, broke into the majors with the Pirates in 2011. He played six games with Pittsburgh in 2012, then spent the next three seasons in the Minnesota Twins organization.
