The Pittsburgh Pirates announced on Sunday morning that catcher Chris Stewart has been activated from the disabled list. To make room on the active roster, catcher Jacob Stallings has been optioned to Indianapolis. The Pirates have been carrying three catchers with Stallings, Francisco Cervelli and Elias Diaz. They will continue to do so for the time being, stating that they want to limit the workload for Cervelli as he comes back from the 7-day DL for concussions.
Stewart went on the DL on May 30th due to a left hamstring strain. He originally expected to miss the minimum amount of days, but took longer to recover.
