LOS ANGELES -- Pirates catcher Francisco Cervelli could be cleared to play in Minor League games this weekend, director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said on Wednesday, after making "remarkable improvements" in his return from a concussion.
Cervelli went through full workouts with Double-A Altoona on Monday and Tuesday, Tomczyk said. Before Cervelli can return to the field and begin a rehab assignment, he must be cleared by doctors, the Commissioner's Office and the Major League Baseball Players Association.
"He's in a good spot," Tomczyk said.
