Cincinnati failed to score for the third straight game, the last two at the hands of the Pirates, while the Pittsburgh pitching staff has posted three shutouts in the first six games of the season, all against the Reds.
The Pirates roughed up Sonny Gray last Sunday when he was lifted in the third inning after allowing five hits and four walks en route to a 5-0 victory, but tonight Gray was sharp, allowing only three hits and no walks while striking out seven, at one point retiring fourteen batters in a row.
