The Pirates recalled utility man Cole Figueroa from Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday, prior to their series opener against the Cubs at Wrigley Field.
Pittsburgh optioned left-hander Kyle Lobstein to Triple-A to make room for Figueroa.
Figueroa, a 28-year-old who can play in both the infield and outfield, flashed some leather in an eight-game stint with the big league club earlier in the season, but he went hitless in nine at-bats. He is batting .340 with a pair of home runs in 13 games with Indianapolis in 2016.
The 26-year-old Lobstein is 2-0 with a 4.
