The Pittsburgh Pirates announced that outfielder Bryce Brentz was claimed off of outright waivers by the New York Mets on Monday afternoon.
The Pirates placed Brentz on waivers on Saturday after they decided he wasn't going to make the Opening Day roster. He was out of minor league options, so the only way the Pirates would have been able to keep him is if he cleared waivers. The Pirates acquired him for cash from the Boston Red Sox in February. The 29-year-old Brentz hit .250/.362/.350 in 17 spring games this year....
