The bullpen washed away any hopes of the Pirates winning Friday, surrendering four home runs in an 8-3 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers at home.
The Pirates jumped out to a 3-1 lead via home runs by Josh Bell and Corey Dickerson and a strong outing Ivan Nova, but a two hour and 14 minute rain delay changed the course of the game. While Richard Rodriguez made quick work to get out of the fifth, Edgar Santana struggled in the sixth, allowing three hits, three runs, a home run and a walk without striking out a batter.
Santana (3-4) was removed three pitches into his fourth batter with right forearm/elbow discomfort.
