Ogden Newspapers apparently changed its mind about buying the bankrupt Charleston Gazette-Mail.
At a court-ordered auction for the newspaper held Thursday, HD Media of Huntington, W.Va., emerged with the lone bid of $11.5 million.
In January, the Gazette-Mail filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and announced Ogden had bid $10.9 million to acquire it.
Wheeling, W.Va.-based Ogden is owned by the Nutting family which also owns the Pittsburgh Pirates, Seven Springs and Hidden Valley resorts.
Officials at the Gazette-Mail learned late Wednesday that Ogden was pulling out, according to a report in that publication.
Other than HD Media’s offer, no other bids were made during the auction which Ogden officials did not attend.
