Benches clear at PNC after Eaton-Cervelli flap

PITTSBURGH -- The Pirates and Nationals cleared their dugouts and bullpens during the sixth inning of Monday night's game at PNC Park following an apparent disagreement between right fielder Adam Eaton and catcher Francisco Cervelli.

Batting with two outs and nobody on in the sixth, Eaton took Ivan Nova's first pitch for a ball then took two more pitches for called strikes. He seemed to disagree with the second called strike, an 80.3-mph curveball away from Eaton, and said something as he stepped out of the batter's box.

Whether it was directed at Cervelli or home-plate umpire Gabe Morales, Cervelli appeared to take offense and stood up to confront Eaton.
