Even though Gerrit Cole‘s first three starts of May were not bad – at all – they were slightly disappointing because of the high standard he has set. On Friday against the Mets, we saw him return to that standard and pitch one of the best games of his career. He played “stopper” and outdueled young Mets phenom Noah Syndergaard in a matchup filled with 96+ MPH heat, and the Pirates were able to start this weekend series off right.
