PITTSBURGH -- Pirates right-hander Chris Archer was removed from Monday night's game against the Braves at PNC Park after four innings as a precaution due to left leg discomfort.
Pirates manager Clint Hurdle and head athletic trainer Bryan Housand went out to the mound to meet with Archer as he warmed up before the fourth inning, but Archer remained in the game and pitched the inning. Archer's injury may have been caused by an awkward, spinning swing in his lone at-bat on Monday, a third-inning strikeout.
Archer, who threw 76 pitches on the night, allowed one run on five hits and walked one while striking out three.
