A.J. Burnett completes simulated game as he rehabs after elbow injury

ST. LOUIS — After completing a simulated game at Busch Stadium today, A.J. Burnett said his elbow feels good and he expects to return soon.

“I feel where I need to be,” said Burnett, who is on the 15-day disabled list because of a flexor strain in his right elbow. “A lot better than I expected to.”

Burnett faced Pirates batters, including Travis Snider, Jaff Decker and Michael Morse. He threw to Chris Stewart and pitched six innings and about 90 pitches.

“I got hot out there [it was a thick 94 degrees in St. Louis] but I wasn't tired,” he said.
