Saturday’s game had no Pittsburgh Pirates in the starting lineup, but it ended up being a rough day for two of their prospects, in addition to Peoria losing 11-7 to Scottsdale, dropping the Javelinas to a 10-10 record with nine games left in the season.
Canaan Smith-Njigba got a pinch-hitting opportunity in the ninth that turned into a very unfortunate decision on his part that will no doubt cost him some of the few remaining games. He was hit by a pitch and decided to charge the mound. There’s video, but I’m not sharing it because it’s not PG on Smith-Njigba’s part (language) and it starts after they have already got down on the ground.
