In the final regular season game in the Arizona Fall League on Friday afternoon, Peoria was on the road to take on the Salt River Rafters in a must-win game that even if they won it didn’t guarantee a playoff spot. In fact, due to tiebreakers, the only way they could get in is if they won and the Gledale/Surprise game ended in a tie, which isn’t as difficult as it sounds because teams rarely play more than one extra inning in this league, and in this particular case, the game was only scheduled for seven innings. Two Pittsburgh Pirates were in the lineup for the finale.
