PITTSBURGH -- The Pirates were shut out for the first time this season on Tuesday night, when the Rockies handed them a 2-0 defeat, their first consecutive losses and their first series loss of the year.
Colorado starter Chad Bettis held Pittsburgh's lineup to five hits and two walks while striking out three over 7 1/3 efficient innings. The Rockies' shut-down bullpen took over from there, with Bryan Shaw, Jake McGee and Wade Davis closing the door on the Pirates and spoiling another solid start by Pittsburgh right-hander Trevor Williams.
