Pittsburgh Pirates first baseman Pedro Alvarez's struggles both at the plate and in the field have led to swirling rumors about the Pirates seeking upgrade at first before the July 31st MLB Trade Deadline.
Per Brad Johnson of MLB Trade Rumors, "the Pirates would probably like to de-emphasize Pedro Alvarez, reports Travis Sawchik of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review."
"Unfortunately, the Pirates will have to look outside of the organization to move beyond Alvarez," Johnson adds. "(Brewers 1B) Adam Lind is probably the most notable first baseman on the trade market. If the Pirates get creative, they could also try a three-team swap for (Astros 1B) Jon Singleton."
A converted third baseman, Alvarez has committed 15 errors already in 2015. Coupled with his .233/.299/.424 slash line, it's plausible Pittsburgh could target Lind (who's been death on righties all season long) or a young project like the Astros' Singleton.
