Pirates Shopping Jon Niese?
Pittsburgh netted Niese in a straight-up trade for Neil Walker. So far, it's been a poor trade for the Pirates. Niese is in the midst of a career-worst season, posting a 7-6 record with a 4.87 ERA. The Pirates are at least considering dealing Niese, reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
The Pirates are actively shopping left-hander Jon Niese, according to multiple industry sources ... He is scheduled to start Sunday at PNC Park against the Chicago Cubs in the Pirates’ last game before the All-Star break. The Pirates have called around to a number of clubs recently, per a source, and expect at least a handful to send scouts Sunday
With Niese struggling, it's unclear what exactly the Pirates would get in return. He's making $9 million this year, with team options the next two years for $10 million and $11 million. There's just a $500,000 buyout if the team doesn't pick up the options.
