The Pittsburgh Pirates already lost catcher Russell Martin to free agency, but signed A.J. Burnett and are continuing to load up their pitching staff. Here's what else the Pirates are up to:
Francisco Liriano
Pittsburgh managed to bring back pitcher Francisco Liriano on a three-year, $39 million deal, who has been a key cog in their rotation for the past two seasons. He was 7-10 in 2014 with a 3.38 ERA and 175 strikeouts.
Josh Lindblom
The Pirates claimed righty Josh Lindblom off waivers from the Athletics after Oakland designated him for assignment. In a corresponding move, the Bucs outrighted right-hander Angel Sanchez to Triple-A.
Lindblom saw just one MLB appearance last year. He tossed 84 minor league innings, working to a 5.79 ERA with 6.4 K/9 versus 2.8 BB/9. Lindblom has played in parts of four major league seasons throughout his career.
Relief Pitching
Pittsburgh is going after a relief pitcher with Liriano's return, and are eyeing Pat Neshek of the St. Louis Cardinals. They're looking to add a lefty to come out of their bullpen, as Tony Watson is their only lefty reliever after the Justin Wilson deal.
