The Pittsburgh Pirates activated catcher Chris Stewart from the 15-day disabled list on Friday, optioning Tony Sanchez to Triple-A Indianapolis in a corresponding move.
Stewart began the 2015 MLB season on the disabled list due to a strained right hamstring. He impressed in his time in Indy and Double-A Altoona, going 6 for 18 in five rehabilitation games for the team's two top minor league affiliates.
"It took a little time once it started going but once I got the feel back, I got that one at-bat that I felt like, that was right, then it flowed from there,” Stewart said of his rehab assignment, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “Then it was just a matter of getting in the repetition to make sure my body was built up enough to carry me through the season.”
Sanchez went 3 for 8 in limited action (3 games) with the Pirates this season. All three of those hits came in an impressive performance against the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday.
