DALLAS — “We felt that he fits what we were looking for in a player.”
That was Penguins director of amateur scouting Patrik Allvin at the NHL Draft Saturday inside American Airlines Center, assessing the second of two second-round picks, 17-year-old Swedish center Filip Hallander.
The comment was made regarding Hallander’s intensity, energy level and production — which drew a Patric Hornqvist comparison — but it could easily describe the Penguins’ philosophy during this draft.
The Penguins made just four selections. However, they used them on players for which they seem to have a concrete vision, ignoring a few minor shortcomings along the way.
