The Penguins certainly didn’t plan it this way.
They surely wish it hadn’t been necessary.
But they probably couldn’t be much happier with the results.
A recent spate of injuries to forwards Sidney Crosby and Beau Bennett and goalie Marc-Andre Fleury prompted them to recall three of their best young prospects — forwards Conor Sheary and Scott Wilson and goalie Matt Murray — from their minor league team in Wilkes-Barre, and all three responded with strong showings.
Sheary had a goal and an assist in four games, Wilson got an assist in his only appearance and Murray went 1-1, allowing two goals in each of his starts.
