The rising star has three more NHL games to play before the Penguins must make a decision about his immediate future — send him back to junior hockey, or allow his entry-level contract to kick in after nine games.
Tuesday, general manager Jim Rutherford, who is as old school as NHL bosses come, indicated he won’t let any deadline force him into a poor decision.
