A day after the Penguins announced that Mark Recchi would join coach Mike Sullivan’s staff, they made another move Wednesday by announcing that defensive development coach Sergei Gonchar would join the group on a full-time basis.
Gonchar, 43, had been shuttling back and forth between his home in Dallas and Pittsburgh for the past two years.
“Like Mark, Sergei brings a wealth of hockey knowledge to our team,” Sullivan said in a statement. “His career is a body of work that speaks for itself. He will naturally transition into a full-time coaching role, building on the experiences and relationships he has already made with our group.
