Rust nets first career hat trick in Penguins' win

As the officials reviewed Bryan Rust’s third goal in the closing minutes of the Penguins’ 8-5 win against Ottawa Monday night, some hats had already found their way onto the ice.

Once the referees determined Rust was indeed onside, and the goal counted, even more headwear cascaded down. Maybe those fans were just waiting for some extra confirmation, but Rust had another idea.

“I think they just didn’t think I would get a hat trick,” he joked after the game.

Rust finding the back net isn’t exactly a huge surprise. He now has six goals on the season, and scored six during the Penguins’ 23-game playoff run last year.
