Penguins games on local television will have a different look and feel for the 2017-18 season.
Root Sports has hired Steve Mears to replace Paul Steigerwald as play-by-play broadcaster, while Steigerwald will transition to the Penguins front office in a new role with the communications and marketing departments.
Mears is a Murrysville native and Franklin Regional High School graduate. For the past five seasons, he’s been the co-host of NHL Live and NHL Now on the NHL Network. Mears also was the radio play-by-play voice of the Islanders from 2006-09 and worked for the Penguins Radio Network from 2009-13.
