Penguins president/chief executive officer David Morehouse was on the phone Monday afternoon talking about Jim Rutherford’s amazing work in the Derick Brassard trade, not only getting the prized Brassard but also fitting him under the team’s tight salary cap.
“Jim Rutherford is the best general manager in the business. He can pull off some magic. I never had a doubt that he’d be able to get it done.”
Turns out the Brassard trade wasn’t even Rutherford’s best work of the long, extended weekend.
Rutherford casually announced later Monday that he will complete a contract extension with Patric Hornqvist Tuesday.
