Ron Cook: Chris Kunitz's return to Penguins would be exception to a sometimes unwise homecoming rule

I’m generally not big on homecomings in sports. Johnny Majors was the greatest Pitt football coach of my lifetime and led the school to its most recent national title in 1976, but he was 12-32 the second time around and lost games by scores of 72-0, 45-0, 55-7 and 60-6. Kevin Stevens helped the Penguins win Stanley Cups in 1991 and 1992, but his career was shot by the time he came back in 2000. James Harrison was NFL defensive player of the year in 2008 for the Steelers but was a role player after he rejoined the team in 2014 and left last season after a bitter divorce.
