Reports: League, players potentially nearing deal in eleventh-hour negotiations

BRADENTON, Fla. -- Opening day just might be saved.

Major League Baseball and the players association were unable to reach a new collective bargaining agreement by the league’s Feb. 28 deadline, but the two sides made significant process in a full day’s worth of negotiations Monday, to the point that it looks like a deal can be reached very soon.

According to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman, the current plan is that both sides will stay at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Fla. until the deal is done.

Reaching a new would end the second-longest work stoppage in the league’s history, get players to their spring training homes in Florida and Arizona in a matter of days and start the regular season on its originally scheduled March 31 date.
