If you weren’t around as a fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1991, your idea of the greatest save in Pens’ playoff history might be Marc-Andre Fleury going cross-crease to stop Nicklas Lidstrom in game seven of the 2009 Stanley Cup Finals.
What Fleury did that night was spectacular, as he fought off a sure tying goal that could have changed history if the Detroit Red Wings would have sent the game to overtime. However, long before Fleury was even thought of as the goaltender for the Pittsburgh Penguins, there was a not-so-highly-touted backup by the name of Frank Pietrangelo that would recognize his chance to make history of his own.
