When Jim Rutherford took over as GM of the Pittsburgh Penguins it was clear that change was needed. Last season, the Pens took on a whole new identity. They looked completely different compared to the 2013-14 squad in terms of names and faces. It seems that the plan is similar this summer.

Rutherford put the Pens in a pretty good situation last summer considering the contract mess that he inherited by sticking to mostly one-year deals. That decision left the Pittsburgh Penguins with options coming out of the 2014-15 season and allowed for the blockbuster acquisition of Phil Kessel.
