PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation has provided free floor hockey equipment to more than 550 elementary and middle schools in 10 different counties since launching its PensFIT program in 2012.
A first-of-its-kind program, PensFIT is a 3-year Penguins Foundation initiative designed to introduce children to the sport of hockey and facilitate an increase in physical activity by supplying elementary and middle schools with complete sets of floor hockey equipment. The equipment is used in physical education classes.
During the 2012-13 season, a total of 250 schools in Allegheny County received free all-inclusive sets of floor hockey equipment from the PensFIT program.
