Pittsburgh’s bid to play host to the 2018 junior hockey world championships has failed.
USA Hockey will announce Friday that the tournament will be held in Buffalo.
A press conference has been scheduled for Ralph Wilson Stadium, suggesting that at least one outdoors game will be part of the event.
The Penguins, who were behind the bid to land the WJC, have been informed that the tournament will not be coming here.
“We’re disappointed, but we gave it a good shot,” Penguins vice president of communications Tom McMillan said. “We’ll continue to try to bring these kinds of events to Pittsburgh.
