Derick Brassard and Phil Kessel were both in uniform before the Penguins’ practice Tuesday at PPG Paints Arena — but only for the annual team photo.
Both players missed the practice itself. Mike Sullivan said it was a “maintenance day” for Kessel, while Brassard is “progressing” from the lower-body injury he sustained in Detroit last week.
Kessel is obviously dealing with some bumps and bruises, as well. He left the Penguins’ 5-2 win against Montreal on Saturday midway through the third period with a lower-body injury and did not return. He was a game-time decision Sunday against Washington but was in the lineup to extend his consecutive games-played streak to 690.
