Every year on Thanksgiving Day, Rainbow Kitchen Community Services in Homestead serves a full Thanksgiving dinner to low-income families in the area.
This year, Thanksgiving came a little early — and with a twist.
According to director Donna Little, Rainbow Kitchen normally serves a free breakfast to about 80 to 100 people per day Monday through Friday. But this was no ordinary Monday. At 1:30 p.m., a bus pulled up straight from the Penguins’ practice facility to drop off six honorary guest servers: Phil Kessel, Jake Guentzel, Conor Sheary, Bryan Rust, Ian Cole and Chad Ruhwedel.
The families gave the players a round of applause as they walked in and made their way to the kitchen, where they divided up responsibilities and took their stations.
