At the end of 12 days on the road, and playing five games in nine days, the Pittsburgh Penguins ran out of gas in a sloppy 7-3 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights.
If there was any surprise it might have been that the Pens made it a 3-3 game in the second period after falling behind 3-1 in the first. But then before the end of the second period Jonathan Marchessault scored twice to give Vegas a 5-3 lead that they would never look back from.
“It’s tough to have to climb back a couple times like that,” Sidney Crosby said.
