Penguins win Game 2 against Capitals, 2-1; series tied, 1-1

WASHINGTON – The Penguins came here a few days ago, intent on returning home with nothing less than a split of the first two games of their second-round playoff series against Washington.

They got it.

But it wasn’t easy. Or cheap.

They beat the Capitals, 2-1, in Game 2 at Verizon Center tonight to even the series, 1-1.

Game 3 will be Monday at 8:10 p.m. at Consol Energy Center, where the Penguins won two of three games during Round 1 against the New York Rangers.

Eric Fehr deflected an Evgeni Malkin pass by Washington goalie Braden Holtby at 15:32 of the third period to break a 1-1 tie and put the Penguins in front to stay.
