A day after scoring twice in the Penguins' 4-1 preseason win over the Blue Jackets, Nathan Legare has signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Penguins, Jim Rutherford announced on Friday.
"Nathan has had a really strong training camp thus far," Rutherford said. "We've been impressed with his offensive instincts and his overall approach to the game. We're thrilled to get him signed."
Legare was the Penguins' third-round pick in this summer's draft.
The contract won't take effect until Legare turns pro. At 18 years old, Legare is not yet eligible to play in the AHL, so the Penguins' options are to return him to his junior team, the QMJHL's Baie-Comeau Drakkar, or keep him in the NHL for the full year.
