WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that they have signed forward Jake Guentzel to an amateur tryout contract.
Guentzel, a third round pick (77th overall) by Pittsburgh at the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, comes to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton after a successful junior season at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. Guentzel reached double digits in goal scoring for the second time in his collegiate career and led the Mavericks in 2015-16 with 46 points (19G-27A) while serving as co-captain.
Over the course of his three seasons at Nebraska-Omaha, the native of Woodbury, Minn. earned 40 goals and 79 assists for 119 career points, good enough for sixth all-time in program history.
