The Penguins are about to sign their first college free agent of the season, St. Cloud State defenseman Ethan Prow.
The deal could be finalized as early as today.
A team official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that Prow will be signing with the Penguins and said he will be assigned to their American Hockey League affiliate in Wilkes-Barre “eventually.”
The official added that there are no plans for him to join the parent club immediately.
Prow, 23, was the highest-scoring defenseman in Division 1 hockey this season, when he had eight goals and 30 assists in 37 games.
