The Pittsburgh Penguins made 18-year-old Daniel Sprong of the Charlottetown Islanders (Quebec Major Junior Hockey League) their top draft pick in the 2015 NHL Draft, picking him with the 46th-overall selection in the second round.
The 6-foot, 180 pound Sprong was ranked No. 20th overall among North American Skaters by NHL Central Scouting and 26th overall by International Scouting Services.
A native of Amsterdam, Netherlands, Sprong moved to Montreal, Quebec when he was seven years old. While in North America, Sprong played for multiple teams prior to Charlottetown including the Lac St-Louis Tigres (League of Excellence of Quebec) and the Wilkes-Barre Knights (Atlantic Metro Hockey League), a travelling team where he tallied 32 points (9G-23A) in 11 games.
