CHICAGO — The Penguins selected defenseman Zachary Lauzon with the 51st overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft.
Lauzon, a left-hander, plays for Rouyn-Noranda of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. He had three goals and 18 assists, with a +42 +/-, in 63 games there this season.
Lauzon, 18, is 6 feet tall and 185 pounds. He is a native of Val d’Or, Quebec.
The selection was the Penguins’ first of the draft, having traded their first-rounder Friday night in exchange for Ryan Reaves from St. Louis. Their next pick is No. 93 overall in the third round.
