The Pittsburgh Penguins will seek more time to start redeveloping the former Civic Arena site.
Team officials have exercised an option that gives them another six months to buy the first parcel needed to start development on the 28-acre site. To get the extension, the Penguins will pay $75,000, as required under their agreement with the Pittsburgh-Allegheny County Sports & Exhibition Authority.
Without the extension, the deadline for buying the first land would have been Thursday.
The team needs more time because it is not far enough along in the planning stages for either the U.
