The Pittsburgh Penguins are taking a key step in their bid to bring 1,100 units of housing to the 28-acre former Civic Arena site in the lower Hill District.
Team officials issued a request for qualifications May 1 to find a minority developer who will be responsible for building at least 250 units on the 10 acres of land closest to Crawford Square in the Hill.
Responses are due June 12.
The minority developer will work closely with St. Louis-based McCormack Baron Salazar, who was selected by the Penguins in 2013 to serve as the lead residential developer on the project.
