Penguins season review: Tough start and a winding road to fourth Stanley Cup

The Penguins lost 34 games during the regular season in 2015-16.

Twenty-six of those defeats came in regulation, eight in overtime and shootouts.

The Penguins battled fiercely in some, offered little more than nominal resistance in others.

Happily for them, though, few bore even scant resemblance to the 4-0 humbling they absorbed Nov. 14 at New Jersey.

That night at the Prudential Center in Newark, the Penguins generated 21 shots and probably shed roughly that many drops of perspiration.

Afterward, Sidney Crosby called it “a terrible game” and “pretty ugly”; defenseman Rob Scuderi labeled it “a total stinker.
