Penguins' Rutherford a finalist for NHL's GM of the year

TAMPA, Fla. – Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford was named a finalist tonight for the 2016 NHL General Manager of the Year award.

Rutherford is one of three finalists along with the Brian MacLellan of the Washington Capitals, and Jim Nill of the Dallas Stars.

Rutherford, in his second year as GM, is credited with several key moves that have helped the team reach the Eastern Conference Finals.

His boldest move was hiring Mike Sullivan in December after firing Mike Johnston. He also made a splash last July, signing Phil Kessel before a flurry of offseason additions.
