Penguins Recall Olli Maatta and Kevin Porter from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton

The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled defenseman Olli Maatta and forward Kevin Porter from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford.

Forward Oskar Sundqvist has been re-assigned to WBS.

Maatta, 21, will be looking to play his first regular-season game tonight since Dec. 6 of last season. He missed the majority of last year’s campaign, first as a result of a cancerous tumor that required a surgical removal, and later because of a shoulder injury.

Maatta had nine points (1G-8A) and was plus-1 in the 20 games he did play last season, including a career-high three assists in Pittsburgh’s 6-4 season-opening defeat of Anaheim on Oct.
