A power-play unit that was dormant for long stretches of the postseason nearly helped the Penguins claim the Stanley Cup Thursday night at Consol Energy Center.
Coach Mike Sullivan said he thought his power-play units’ performance in the Penguins’ 4-2 loss against the San Jose Sharks in Game 5 was one of the best he has seen in the postseason.
The Penguins scored one power-play goal on three chances, but generated several more scoring chances off five shots on goal.
Phil Kessel’s shot on the power-play with 11:02 left in the first period deflected off the crossbar and a post before bouncing away.
