NEW YORK — Penguins defenseman Matt Hunwick has been diagnosed with a concussion, coach Mike Sullivan said Tuesday after the team’s 5-4 win against the Rangers.

The team had placed Hunwick on injured reserve earlier in the day.

Sullivan said the injury occurred during the Penguins’ practice Monday in Pittsburgh, and he began reporting headaches Tuesday morning.

“He came in this morning complaining of headaches, so he went through the testing,” Sullivan said.

Sullivan declined to provide a timetable for Hunwick’s return to action, but said he has been sent back to Pittsburgh for further evaluation from the Penguins’ team doctors.
