The Penguins’ run to the Stanley Cup last spring was, in large part, defined by the quick, up-tempo style of play they employed under coach Mike Sullivan.
So far this season, they’ve continued that game plan, and it has made the offense one of the most lethal in the league.
The only problem is opponents have had their fair share of chances, as well.
The Penguins lead the NHL in shots per game this season, but have also allowed opponents the second most. After a wild 8-5 win Monday night against Ottawa, Penguins coach Mike Sullivan spoke about the importance of differentiating between playing a speed game and turning every night into a track meet.
