A segment of the Penguins’ fan base — perhaps a hefty one — might be disappointed to learn that general manager Jim Rutherford says he hasn’t considered replacing coach Mike Johnston this season.
But that doesn’t mean he is entirely satisfied with the performance of Johnston and his staff. Or Johnston’s players, for that matter.
The Penguins are 11-7 going into a game tonight against Colorado tonight at Consol Energy Center. That’s good for a rather tenuous grip on the first Eastern Conference wild-card berth, a full eight points behind the conference leaders, Montreal and the New York Rangers.
